Johannisburg Palace
From the Middle Ages Aschaffenburg was the favorite residence of the Archbishops of Mainz, the most powerful spiritual princes in the Holy Roman Empire.
The magnificent Renaissance building is administered by the Bavarian Palace Department and in addition to the state collections has also housed the City of Aschaffenburg’s Palace Museum since 1972.
The collection
Regular special exhibitions of regional artists and themes in the decorative arts complement the collections of princely prestige and representation and the history of the city and its industry in the nineteenth century.
